That is what I owe my two grandmothers for instilling in me respect and curiousity about our family history. My parents as well, but as the matriarchs of our families, these two women have kept alive very important aspects of our family and culture.
Grandma R started the Christmas Eve tradition of a typical Swedish smorgasbord and singlehandedly kept in going for many years until her kids and grandkids slowing started taking on dishes and delegating responsibilities. Some of my earliest memories are visiting the farm on which Grandma R grew up. I loved hearing stories about the log cabin her father grew up in on the same farm.
Grandma B took us on trips to South Bend, Indiana to see places that held importance in our family. It was always great fun to carefully open one of the beautiful bound photo albums in her collection and wonder about the lives of those pictured.
My Grandmas have loved and supported me so much. I am so fortunate that my two boys are growing up with these special ladies in their lives. What a legacy of memories, traditions and virtues they have gifted us!
